GM courgettes planted in Germany |

Seminis, a vegetable seed company owned by Monsanto, has admitted that
GMO zucchini (courgettes) have been accidently planted in Germany.
Apparently the company has destroyed the crop. 90 grams of seeds were
imported from the US via Holland. One region of Germany claims that 100
seeds were planted in greenhouses. According to Seminis they are the
largest developer, grower and marketer of fruit and vegetable seeds in
the world. They operate in 150 countries and territories. Earlier this
year they were bought by Monsanto

GM crop contamination may spark review
"The federal and state governments are being urged to consider national
liability laws after canola crops in four states were contaminated with
genetically modified (GM) material.
The West Australian government said the legal framework surrounding the
GM technology and its escape into GM-free crops needed an urgent review
in the wake of the nation's biggest ever contamination cases."

European Commission Approves GM Oilseed Rape |

"The European Commission has approved the import of Monsanto's
genetically modified oilseed rape, making it available for food and
animal feed across the EU.
The decision came despite the decision of the UK, and most EU Member State governments, not to support the application."
"Tests have shown that rats fed the oilseed rape showed increase in
liver weights and there are also concerns over the impact of seed
spills into the environment.
In addition, recent UK Government research has reported the discovery
of the first genetically modified 'superweed' - the result of GM
oilseed rape cross-breeding with the common weed charlock in the UK
farm scale trials. The weed is resistant to the herbicide used on GM
crops."

with the exception of its organic range of sheep feed and three beef
diets - Eco beef grade nuts, Eco beef rolls and Eco beef mix 34, which
contain less than 0.9%."

EU Ministers vote to keep bans on certain GM crops |
|
|
Environment ministers from across Europe voted on 24th June 2005 to
allow Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Greece to keep their
bans on certain GM crops. They rejected proposals by the unelected
European Commission to lift the bans. The USA claims that such bans are
a barrier to trade and has made a complaint to the World Trade
Organisation. But UK Environment Minister Elliot Morley sided with the
GM industry, voting to overturn the bans.
