Our Aims
'are to further the interests of Organic production, processing, consumption, and the philosophy underpinning the movement, within the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.' In practical terms we are doing this by - - encouraging communication between members to help them work together eg by forming local buying and selling groups.
- organising meetings.
 - lobbying for Organic facilities not yet available in the North eg an organic butcher and locally available feed.
- setting up www.hioa.org.uk to allow fast and cheap communication between members eg for inter-farm trading and showing consumers what local produce is available
- producing an informative newsletter
- enabling consumers to become involved in, help with, and receive the benefits of local sustainable agriculture
How you can help us Organic producers are still few and far apart in the Highlands and Islands and mostly very busy on their farms. You can help by - - joining the Association. The small fee will keep you in touch with progress and help spread the costs.
- some of you may have the time and skills needed to help run the Association
- if you are interested in practical help on our farms this can be done through us or by joining WWOOF - World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.
- contacting your MSP/MP to keep the Highlands GM free and to support Organic farming
- by giving us your views
- eating Organic, especially local!
