Soil Association future events: 
 
Grassland & Clover Management Event
Wednesday 11 August 2010 at Dumfries.
The technical session in the morning will include presentations from David Younie & Jimmy Goldie, SAC & James Bretherton, AgScope. Topics to be covered include soil management for optimum grassland productivity, utilization, grass measurement & maximizing quality, choice of grass & clover species, establishment, nutrient management & weed control. The event will also include a visit to Beyond the Burn courtesy of the Lochhead family, who run a herd of 135 pedigree Brown Swiss cows plus 150 followers. Winter feed includes red clover silage and fodder beet. Future plans include increasing to 150 cows robotic milking with paddock rotational grazing system. With the end product being cheese. This will be a very practical day with considerable time out on the farm. The cost is £40.00 plus VAT.

Thursday 23 September 2010 at Forres.
The technical session in the morning will include presentations from David Younie & Gavin Hill, SAC, topics covered include grassland productivity, utilization & optimum stocking rates, choice of grass & clover species, establishment, nutrient management & weed control. The event will also include a visit to Ellands Farm, beef and arable unit courtesy of Mr Will Downie, to discuss how these principles can be put into practice. The cost is £40.00 plus VAT


Developing On Farm Renewables
Thursday 7 October 2010 at Laurencekirk.
A session in the morning will look at understanding how renewables work; installing and funding for renewables; what is available; generating returns from renewables. Speakers include Maitland Mackie, Ian Cowe, Forestry Commission, Simon Munro, Logan Project Management, David Ross, SAC. The day will also include looking at and discussing Glensaugh’s 50Kw wind turbine and bio mass boiler. The cost is £40.00 plus VAT for primary food producers, £60 plus VAT for other interested parties.

One Stop Renewables Seminar on Wind Turbine Energy
6 July 2010 in Dumfriesshire
9 July at Brechin.
One Stop Renewables are hosting two seminars on Wind Turbine Energy, looking at the A27 turbine, which is very popular with farmers for on-farm renewable energy production. The A27 is a 225kw turbine on a 30m pole with 27m blades.
The discussion will focus on Siting, Finance, Planning, Installation & Maintenance and FiTs.
The seminars are open to all and are free.
