EU Ministers vote to keep bans on certain GM crops Print E-mail
Environment ministers from across Europe voted on 24th June 2005 to allow Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Greece to keep their bans on certain GM crops. They rejected proposals by the unelected European Commission to lift the bans. The USA claims that such bans are a barrier to trade and has made a complaint to the World Trade Organisation. But UK Environment Minister Elliot Morley sided with the GM industry, voting to overturn the bans.
