SALES

8 July '08:  Sallie Tyszko or Porteous very much wants a good home for her cattle.  A description, in Sallie's own words, follows and for photos and more details, do contact Sallie at Tel/FAX 01463 871544
All the cattle are registered, have ear-tags and passports.
1. There is Doola, she’s (a bit stout) Limosin X  off Rosie, (Aberdeen Angus x Ling). She was born on the croft on New Year's day, 1 January 2006 , never been off it and she’s in calf to our friendly neighbouring Shorthorn bull, served on the 4 December 2007.
2.  Next, Daisy, she is Rosie's most beautiful calfie, her dad is the Shorthorn bull next door, of course. She was born on 29 October 2007, and as I had to find Rosie's teats for her, she’s been very grateful to us ever since! She is VERY docile and some of us call her Dozy Daisy. She’s a sopit and loves humans and a good brush. She is naturally polled.
3.  There is my friend Rosie, she is Aberdeen Angus cross Ling and the Ling bit gives her the wee short leggies. Providing you tell her first, she knows exactly what you’re up to, and what you want her to do. She was born on the 30 March 1997, and came to live with us on the 30 March 1998.  She has always chosen when she wants to have a calf herself and has had 5 so far. She is a bit of a prima donna and rolls her eyes and carries on when she doen’t want to do something (like go in the crush) but she will if you are patient and persist. She is prone to develop mastitis and her front left teat is dead. Some of her calves have difficulty finding her low teats and she would have maybe lost one or two if we hadn’t been there to get them stuck on for the initial colostum. A great character and very wise and gentle with others, the best as a leader.
I think she should be retiring, like me, but she has her own ways, and backed up to Mr Shorthorn through the fence(!) on Christmas Eve, 24 December 2007
4.  Finally there’s our big boy, Little Star. He was rescued from a dairy and was born on 29 August 2006. A lovely cow that we were looking after for a friend lost her own calf which was too big, got stuck and by the time I realised and the vets got here it was too late. It made me very sad to see her grieving so badly, so I bought a calf (Little Star) from the dairy for her. And he grew and grew and now he is a really leggy, slim, almost black boy with white socks, belly bits and a perfect triangle in the middle of his forehead. He is very loving of humans and the other cattle, the sweetest-natured of all the animals, very responsive, and totally useless for any kind of “productive” use.
